Every business seemingly has some type of loyalty program. Whether it is points earned for credit card purchases, other points systems, tiered reward systems or punch cards, many businesses today have chosen these programs to provide incentives to their consumers. TechnologyAdvice conducted a survey of 3,162 consumers who use loyalty programs to find out their thoughts on the incentives offered by different businesses for participation.
The number one reason consumers participate in loyalty programs is to save money, as reported by the survey. Results showed that 57.4 percent of consumers listed “saving money” as their reason for participating, 37.5 percent listed “receiving rewards” as their primary reason and 3.6 percent listed “earning rewards” are their primary reason.
Offering exclusive perks, such as VIP status, also has an impact on participation. Survey results found that 56.8 percent of consumers were more likely to participate in a loyalty program if exclusivity rewards were offered.
Applying Loyalty Programs to eCommerce
Consumers want to save money by being part of your loyalty program, so as an online retailer, provide coupon codes to loyal customers. Offer them exclusive discounts that customers who are not part of your loyalty program do not have access to. This allows your loyal customers to save money and makes them feel like they’re getting special treatment. Learn about what marketing tools k-eCommerce offers by following this link.
Another example of online loyalty programs are all the subscription boxes that have grown in popularity. There are many subscription boxes available to consumers that deliver health and beauty products, fitness apparel, healthy living items and even clothes to their homes each month for a fee. Businesses that offer this service also provide their customers with the ability to earn points for purchases made in their online store. Once a certain amount of points have been accumulated, consumers can then use those points for other purchases. This is another type of online loyalty program that might fit your business model.
Mobile Matters Here Too
The survey from TechnologyAdvice also found that consumers were more likely to participate in a loyalty program that had a smartphone app. Of total respondents, 59 percent said they were more likely to participate if a mobile app were available and 41 percent said they were less likely. However, of those surveyed, the general consensus was that consumers are undecided about whether or not they prefer a card-based or digital loyalty program.
