Every organization sold product or services to Customer. These Customer are main source of income to these organization. In Dynamics 365 for finance and operations we can create customer in Account receivable and sales and marketing modules.  Customer basic information is saved per legal entity but his Name, address and contact save in global address book. That can be reusable in different legal entity with new customer account.

We can define customer from Account Receivable => Customer => All Customer

Sales and Marketing => Customers => All customers

If we open the customer list page, similar page will be appear. This page can be used as inquiry too. The customer created here will be used for sales, payment, Invoices and ledger accounts. Customer information can be changed any time.

Every Customer is created with unique id in Customer Account.  Default size of Customer Account is 20.

By clicking on new button from top menu , on list page a dialog opens where we can enter basic information. boxes with red boundaries are mandatory. Customer can be organization or individual entry. As I already mentioned that Customer Name, address  and even contacts are global across  application.

There are multiple options  available on save . Default option is save and go in detail page.

Other options are as follow

-Sales Quotations : Where we create Sales Quotations and start to enter the Sales quotations send to Customer in response to its RFQ.

-Project Order: Where customer saved and Project Quotations detail form opens.

-Sales Order: Customer Record saved and new sale order created against Customer and it goes directly Sales order detail page.

On click at Edit button to leads customer detail page in edit mode. We can modify information and save. This edit mode can available on detail page also.

Out of the box Customer detail will be something similar

Customer Information and Contact:

Contact and Address can be added from Addresses and Contact information.

Invoice and delivery Information of Customer:

Some cases, we invoice the customer other then customer It self. Some times Same customer purchase things with different customer Account. In that case we invoiced shipment to another customer Id. For this purpose Dynamics 365 for finance provide Invoice Account in “Invoice and delivery” fast tab.

In the case of Invoice account not set in Invoice and Delivery fast tab then Invoice will be created against Customer Account as default.

The delivery terms, mode of delivery, receipt calendar can be specified in the Delivery area. This information will default to the sales order header.

If you want to calculate Sales tax against customer Invoice, you have to set Sales tax in Invoice and Delivery fat tab.

Customer Payment Information:

Payment management options can set in customer Payment fast tab

You can set

  • Terms of payment
  • Method of payment
  • Payment specification
  • Payment schedule.
  • Payment day
  • Cash discount. A cash discount is used as an incentive for customers that pay
  • before due date.
  • Bank account
  • Bank account number

Customer Financial Dimension:

Customer financial dimension can be set from  financial Dimension fast tab. These financial dimension automatically copied in sale order and customer invoices if they are set at customer level. These financial dimension can be modify and over right.

Sales order related default settings:

From Sale Order Defaults fast tab, you can set Preferred shipped from ware house and site and also Bill to customer. Bill to customer can be set in account number. This account number will be copied to Sale order header instead of customer own Account number. It means, we can set different Account for bill to customer .

Did you know...

  • MEM has a New Entity Setup Wizard to help you create and configure a new entity for MEM. The wizard simplifies the entity configuration process by providing step-by-step windows to ensure that you do not miss information. If you decide to skip a step in the wizard you can manually edit the setting in the corresponding window outside of the wizard populated setup window for that step.  For instance if you skipped setting up a relationship between a user, or a user class you may re-enter the User Entity Setup page at a later date and then fill in the relationship information. This feature is available as of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 RTM.

New Flushing principle

$

0

This blog post describes a new flushing principle Available at location that was introduced in Dynamics 365 for finance and operations, Enterprise edition for the spring release 2017.

The flushing principles reflect different consumption strategies for raw materials that are used in production processes. Consumption is the process that deducts material from the on-hand inventory and sets the value of the consumed materials to Work in progress (WIP) for production orders and batch orders. Raw materials are usually consumed from a location that is configured for the process that consumes the material. This location is known as the production input location. Material consumption for production and batch orders is accounted for in the Production picking list journal.

Flushing principle available at location

The Available at location flushing principle indicates that the material will be automatically consumed when it's registered as picked for production. The material is registered as picked from location when work for the raw material picking is completed, or when material is available on the production input location and the material line is released to the warehouse. The picking list that is generated during the process is posted in a batch job. This principle is relevant if, for example, you have many picking activities against one production order. In this case, you don't have to update the picking list manually, and you can get a current view of the WIP balance.

Let's walk through some simple scenarios that shows how the new flushing principle works.

In the following example we will be using product L0101 from the USMF demo data.

  1. Go to the BOM version for L0101 and remove product L0100 and M9204, so the resulting bill of material looks like below.

2. Go to the details for the line item for M9203 and change the flushing principle to “Available at location”

3. Create a production order for L0101 with the default quantity 20.
4. Estimate and Release the production order
a. Verify that work has been created for M9203
5. Start the production order with the below setting

Note: When starting the production order, no picking list was created. This is because no material has yet been made available on the production input location by completion of warehouse work.
6. Process the warehouse work with the help of the hand-held device
7. After completing the work, go to the picking list of the production order

Note: Because the bom line has the flushing principle Available at location the picking list journal was automatically created when the pick work was completed. The posting of the picking list is inserted into a batch job, and that is why it can appear as not posted when opened just after the work is completed. After a couple of minutes after work completion the picking list will be posted by the batch job.

8. Create a new production order for L0101
9. Estimate and Release the order
Note: No work was created, because M9203 is available at the production input location, because we staged the full quantity of the license plate (200 pcs) when we processed the work for the first production order and we only consumed 20 pcs, so 180 pcs are remaining.
10. Start the production order with Auto BOM Consumption = Flushing principle
Note: A production picking list was created and posted. When material is already available at the production input location, the flushing principle “Available at location” has the same behavior as the flushing principle “Start”.

Increase Efficiency of Invoice Processing in Dynamics AX

3 Ways to Increase Efficiency of Invoice Processing

The invoice approval process is integral to just about every business. It covers multiple departments and purchases of all sizes. Handling invoices correctly is essential to proper accounting and cash flow for your business. If this process is manual - typical of many businesses, it can be slow and error prone.

While some invoices reach the end of the process correctly, sometimes others fall by the wayside, due to common problems with the invoice approval process. When there are many touchpoints for an invoice for example, such as physical document preparation, routing, manual data entry, and error correction, it’s easier for errors to occur.

An inefficient invoice approval process contains many hidden costs, particularly if there are several manual steps involved. Every time an invoice is physically handled before payment is made the risk of error increases. This contributes to higher labor costs, longer processing cycles, and cash flow irregularities.

Automating the invoice approval process, can bring many benefits:

  • Easier to scale up without increasing workforce
  • Manual matching and physical routing of paper documents becomes thing of the past
  • Elimination of duplicate payments
  • Creates an automatic audit trail
  • Reduces invoice disputes significantly

Automate invoice matching, purchase orders, and receipts

When you automate invoices, purchase orders, and receipt generation, you can speed up the invoice process considerably.

Your process can be designed so that each invoice that arrives is matched against the correct purchase order and receipt. When invoices match, they are routed straight through any necessary approval steps right to your company’s finance system.

Manual matching of invoices, purchase orders, and receipts becomes outdated, freeing up staff time for more important tasks.

Automate invoice approval routing

Creating an automated invoice approval process requires that you define the chain of authority for approval and create automatic connections that deliver the right electronic document to the right person at the right time.

You can also design different approval paths. For example, if invoices for under a certain amount only need the approval of the section manager before finance will arrange payment, you could make it branch out separately from the process for invoices for over that amount, which must be approved by the section manager and the department head before finance will arrange payment.

Visibility

A great advantage of an automated invoice approval process is that it can be set up to automatically create a “paper trail” that provides visibility into every step of the process.

Authorized users can see where in the process an invoice is at any given time, and if ever there is a question about whether a step has been completed, the electronic audit trail can answer the question.

This can be of great benefit when dealing with things like software license audits. Proof that a license was paid for can be produced instantly, saving all parties time and trouble.

What you need to look for

The components that make up your automated invoice approval process should be tailored to your company’s needs, so it’s important to choose workflow software that provides flexibility to customize workflows, such as Columbus' Invoice Workflow.

Invoice workflow for Dynamics AX provides a high level of flexibility in invoice routing and approval from any device, and is extremely easy to set up and configure according to a company’s business rules. The automatic notifications component in invoice workflow also ensures on time approval of invoices and prompt handling of escalations and exceptions. Further benefits include:

  • Typical ROI of 12 months
  • Save time and reduce costs related to vendor invoice processing
  • Strengthen relationships with suppliers with timely payments and more efficient invoice handling
  • Efficient and customizable approval workflows
  • Leverage Dynamics AX account structure with new and improved dimension validation

If you’d like to learn more about how Invoice Workflow can increase the efficiency and reduce errors with your invoice processing, visit our website or register for our invoice workflow webinar here, where you will hear from one of our invoice processing experts who explains the benefits in more detail.

BPM search and Task guide help broken

$

We’ve been investigating reports that BPM search and Task guide help are broken.

The root cause is that our task guide search indexing mechanism at times will delete some entries from an index during index maintenance. This had been known to happen very intermittently, and we had been mitigating this by re-indexing individual task guide libraries. Recently after some scale out work to improve search performance, however, this has gotten much worse.  As of last week, search against our global task guide libraries had stopped working altogether, both in the LCS client as well as from the Help pane in the web client.

We hope to have an initial fix that stops the index process from deleting entries available to deploy to LCS by early next week. In the meantime, we plan to re-index the global task guide libraries today to reenable search of those libraries.  Additionally, we are actively working on longer term fixes to avoid the indexing problems in the future.

Using Corporate Performance Management (CPM) for Digital Transformation, Part 1

This article focuses on the first part in using Corporate Performance Management (CPM) for digital transformation.

Image taken from Shutterstock.

According to ERP Software, “Digital Transformation is what happens when businesses rethink processes, services and products in terms of what is possible using current technology.” Digital technology has entered a new realm in terms of innovations including advanced analytics, cloud computing, machine learning and more. With modern corporate performance management (CPM) solutions, anyone can now access the most advanced resources. This article will cover two fundamental pillars of digital transformation based on The Art of Digital Transformation – Four Pillars of Industry 4.0 by ANEGIS Consulting, a Microsoft Gold Partner.

Digital transformation happens when innovators use technology to develop new products, respond to customer demand, and unite operations worldwide seamlessly while enabling their people, internally and externally, to reach their goals.

Here are two foundational pillars of digital transformation:

1)      Engage customers – Take advantage of modern technology to shift your focus to customers. Various routes to integrated data and sources of data such as customer feedback and interactions, product performance, and social networks allow customers to gain insight in every area of the business. Digital transformation makes communication more effective and responsive by enabling companies to reach their customers directly and accommodate their business models.

2)      Empower employees – Digital transformation is positively affecting customers and encouraging employees. Encouraging colleagues to handle assets and processes in real time by connecting them with the data they need at any place, any time, and on any technological device.

The message I am trying to get across is that digital transformation is the process of reframing business structures, products, and services in regard to what is possible using current technology. In the CPM realm, digital transformation can also mean investing in modern cloud platforms and solutions that help organizations make better business decisions worldwide to improve reporting and budgeting processes for the company itself and its customers.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance & Operations - Change the standard URL in a VHD Machine

Hi All

In a Business scenario, we can setup several VHD all-in-one box Environments in the same Datacenter for various purpose.
One issue is the standard base URL that usually is https://usnconeboxax1aos.cloud.onebox.dynamics.com/ for all Envs.

In order to change it and allow the team to reach the different Envs, for each Dev Box replace “usnconeboxax1aos” with the desired URL like “XXXXXXX”:

1-  Modify Endpoint URL on IIS

2- Modify web.config files in the C:\AOSService\webrootand replace all standard “url name” entries with the new one (XXXXX)

3- Modify wif.services.config as per the previous step

4- Modify “Host” file on C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc like that:
127.0.0.1           xxxxx.
cloud.onebox.dynamics.com

5-  Change the “hosts” file on C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc in your Laptop, like:XX.XX.XX.XX     xxxx.cloud.onebox.dynamics.com
where XX.XX.XX.XX will be the IP of the VHD Box
You have to add an entry for each VHD URL Env.

6- As the last step, make the Admin User Provisioning

Cross-Post: Pointing Build Definitions To Specific VMs (agents)

Dear readership,

Having a personal blog but also having opportunities to write on official blogs and documentation has its pros and cons. As I now have ownership of the AX Dev ALM blog on MSDN I will have the challenge of deciding when to post where regarding ALM related topics. I realize many people read this blog for some of the ALM related topics, so I figured I would cross-post here. I encourage you to follow the AxDevALM blog directly as it's not my intention to keep cross-posting everything. Perhaps some PSA stuff on the official blog and in-depth or example stuff here, we'll see.

For now, here's the link: Pointing Build Definitions To Specific VMs (agents).

And yes, I realize we're missing a lot of documentation on docs.microsoft.com regarding the build process. Posting there is a much lengthier and more stringent process, and blogging is just an easy, quick way to put something out there. The ALM blog is quick and painless, but it's official. Here, I can say (almost) anything I want :-)

I am working on other blog posts (on both blogs) so keep an eye out for those!
